In February 2022, we announced an updated schedule for the retirement of Paper Lantern for end users. Now is the time to plan your migration to Jupiter!

What does the future hold?

Starting with cPanel & WHM v106, adoption of Jupiter for end users becomes paramount.

When updating to cPanel & WHM v106, your server will ask you to set the server's default theme to Jupiter for end users. Look for the "feature showcase" upon update and click "Change." After making this selection, any new user accounts you create will start with Jupiter.

Under certain conditions, Paper Lantern for end user accounts will include the means for users to switch themselves to Jupiter. An alert at the top of Paper Lantern will provide a quick and easy button for these users. This will only display for servers set to automatically update using our EDGE, CURRENT, RELEASE and STABLE update tiers. It will only show to users who have permissions to modify their own theme settings. If the server manually updates, or uses our LTS update tier, this button will not display.

What if I need more time?

In order to temporarily defer the move to Jupiter, you can elect to stay on any supported version of cPanel & WHM for its support window. Provided the process would not be considered a downgrade, you can even move to the Long Term Support Update Tier as described in https://www.1.cpanel.net/e/871471/iguration-update-preferences--/bllbqt/672597564?h=ZOO4WIGFbAiqxxUGfq0kUAJOGJ1oM3iwWo6AloYHogI Note that this would only be possible if you are currently running an older version, such as v102.

Paper Lantern for end users will no longer be supported in any form, including LTS support, by June 2023. The last versions of cPanel & WHM which will contain Paper Lantern will be cPanel & WHM v106 (scheduled for release during Q3 of 2022) for non-LTS users, and cPanel & WHM v102 for LTS users.
